Situation:
You have four black and white cameras running through a four channel
switching unit to a VCR in time-lapse mode, you have one monitor
used only for playback; when you have the time. You have grown your
company and expanded the warehouse/depot to cope with the new business.
You have 26 key exit points and several store rooms for sensitive
packages as well as a new reception area and car park.
You
have certain value items that are going missing, packages that are
not reflected on the conveyor belt and have noticed some well
trampled areas either side of a part of your perimeter fence. You
are also of the opinion that one of your shift managers may be
involved as random checks have raised suspicions.
Solution:
Replace your analogue system with a Digital solution using a
Digital Video Recorder or an IP backbone linking sufficient cameras
to a central server. Purchase additional new cameras, a mix of PTZ domes for
general tour surveillance, colour cameras for detailed reference
and move the monochrome black and white cameras to areas of low
light where colour is not an issue.
Ensure that the Digital solution you choose is capable of off site
access. Install an access control system that allows you to check on
each and every employee. Integrate the access control with CCTV so
that upon an incident or exception cameras can be set to record
immediately without interference.
Install some video analytics that will monitoring conveyor belts and
other areas allowing you to identify problems, count and classify
packages and generally provide the alarm triggers for unusual
happenings.
Follow an integration path and look to provide your control room
with an interactive means of identifying problem areas. At night
consider monitoring off site with trained personnel rather than
relying on the current night watch staff as they might also be
involved.
Consider integrating your processing and operational SCADA type
solutions to provide one key interface for all of your systems.
